The assignment was to design a feature spread for an article of our choosing. The goals of this project were to develop our visual and typographic solutions and really think of how to convey our subject matter in a new and different way.
Chaos Theory is such an abstract and large concept, so I wanted to base my solution around creating a distinct atmosphere and visual interpretation of organized chaos. That is, a solution with clear typographical and visual hierarchy but yet still keeping a clearly chaotic nature. I first started with research about chaos theory and the existing visual language that surrounds it. Since most of it was all digital based, I wanted to start my solution by physically cutting paper. I then took pictures of the paper cut outs I created and converted them to bitmap to create textures of decay and pixels. I then layered these different textures to mold the word chaos into what I imagined the literal inside of what "chaos" might feel like. My solution focuses on creating a speculative world using bold colors and textures to help shape the viewers imagination on what Chaos Theory could really be.
The project was well received in class critique and earned an A from the professor.
