For this project the assignment was to design a bus for the clampitt paper company that would serve as a traveling paper showroom and marketing tool for the brand.
My group went through several rounds of brainstorming before landing on the concept we dubbed a world of paper, which aims to ask the viewer, “where can paper take you?” For the outside of the vehicle, we sketched a landscape which gradually transitions from forest to desert to beach to valley. We then recreated that sketch in illustrator before adding colors and finally paper textures and shadows in order to create the appearance that this landscape is composed of overlapping sheets of paper in varying colors and textures. We then created a mock up of what the inside of the bus might look like. We chose to organize it similar to a bar due to how narrow a bus is. With this system people can come in, sit down, look at paper sample books as well as paper on display behind the bar. They would then be able to ask the person working behind the bar any questions or make any purchases. Finally, we designed a social media campaign to accompany the bus. For the socials, we carried over the same color scheme, type, and paper textures from the bus. The socials are composed of three different kinds of posts. First, there are posts hinting at the bus, which show some of the bus itself, second are posts showing the artwork that is on the bus, third are all type posts with slogans or statistics.
This project was very successful. When the project was presented to the client, they liked the concept, in particular the idea of using the company’s paper as textures in the artwork as well as some of the copywriting, such as “Paper can take you everywhere because paper isn't going anywhere”
