This project was created while taking Theron Moore's 483A class at Cal State Fullerton. The goal of the assignment was to redesign CD packaging of any band of our choosing. My goal when redesigning Modest Mouse's "We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank" album was to create iconography that would attract listeners of that genre. I wanted to reflect on the outside what the music sounds like on the inside.

My approach consisted of generating a lot of thumbnails to get the right patterns and textures I wanted. I also drew out each of the band members faces using a Walcom tablet. I knew I wanted my main focal point to be the lyric book because the lyrics are such a defining characteristic of the band. So I made an accordion fold pull out poster inside the CD packaging. As well as a 11X17 Poster. For the iconography on the cover I referenced the song lyrics nautical theme. On the inside I utilized dye cuts to expose the colorful lyric book underneath.

Overall the project was a success, I was happy with the consistency of the design and so was my teacher. He ended up putting it in the display case in front of our school.
