It was in March. COVID-19 suddenly started spreading when it was the time for cherry blossoms reaching amazingly beautiful full bloom in Japan. What can graphic designs do while people all over the world are in fear and anxiety. I tried to deliver my message to the world using a poster as a medium.
In Japan, cherry blossoms began scattering then. I have produced one poster this time using those cherry blossom petals and branches. I have used scattered cherry blossoms as a metaphor for the fact that there had been many deaths due to COVID-19. However, at the same time, I have expressed a “hope” to bloom once we overcome the tragedy by creating a human being using a branch that would take a step forward. For the face, a bud just before the flowers bloom was used.
I am not expecting any significant effects to the fear of COVID-19 through this poster alone. However, I am hoping that it will convey a “hope” that can only be communicated through graphic designs. It is my wish that many graphic designers in the world are conducting activities for such a “hope.”
