my grandmother has always told me that i never sit in chairs correctly, so when i was choosing a story for my chair project, i immediatley thought of her. she has always thought of me as rebelious and i have always thought of her as controlling. as i have gotten older, though, i realized that she and i have always wanted the same thing— for me to be successful.
Sometimes we just have to shift our perspective to realize that. the two forms speak to each other while the striation effect created by the laminates compliments the curves. this chair pushes the limits of sculptural plywood just like my grandmother and i have always pushed the limits of our relationship.
