This project was to create a feature spread for a magazine of our own choosing. I chose to create a magazine on the cultural and historical significance of the pomegranate around the globe. This opening feature is a commentary on how to many ancient cultures, the pomegranate is the fruit of new life, resurrection, and is considered holy in many ways.

Right away I wanted to evoke a feeling of elegance, luxury, and holiness. The image captures the luxurious nature of how beautiful a pomegranate can be. The type treatment is due to me experimenting with the letterforms and how they can create a special visual treat for the viewer. Much of this conceptual phase was done in sketches and thumbnails. Utilizing Adobe Illustrator also helped me to create quick digital mock ups of any sketched ideas. Adobe InDesign helped to bring all the elements together into this rich, decadent spread.

The reaction of the client leads me to believe this piece is a success. They were pleased with the richness of the colors, imagery, and type treatments, and felt as though the "elegant" nature of the initial vision was thoroughly realized.
