Quake Lake, southwestern Montana. It was created after an earthquake struck on August 17, 1959, damming the Madison River canyon and flooding a forest of lodgepole pines.
Approach
Smokey atmospheric conditions resulting from nearby Yellowstone National Park wildfires filtered the late morning light creating a dramatic moment in time image.
Results
The smoke enhanced the surrealness of an already surreal landscape.
