The University of Massachusetts Amherst Advancement team came to BRIGADE for help with the design of their triannual alumni magazine. For the fall 2019 edition, our assignment was to create custom artwork and distinctive layouts that would highlight feature stories while staying true to the overarching UMass brand identity.
Aligning with the UMass effort to elicit pride and greater interaction with the alumni and university community, our goal was to make both the in-hand and online experience of the magazine dynamic and engaging. To do this, we worked with Advancement to develop artwork and layouts that not only coordinated with their feature stories, but also gave them a more artful and inspiring feel — connecting to the incredible music, visual arts, fashion, sports, science, technology, and research taking place on the UMass campus and around the world via students, staff, and alumni. To strike a balance between our outside-the-box creative efforts and the UMass brand identity, we incorporated a vibrant color palette as a compliment to photography and for variety, but utilized the UMass palette for the skeleton of the magazine.
The result: a masterpiece of artistic storytelling that connects readers to the flagship campus and celebrates the wide-ranging achievements of UMass Amherst and their alumni. The UMass Advancement team was so pleased with BRIGADE’s work on the Fall 2019 magazine, they’ve hired us to work on the Spring 2020 edition.
