Creative Process:
In this project, mathematical concepts are used as a form of artistic expression and design aesthetics. It studies the visual metaphor between mathematics and coffee. It is an explorative branding project that attempts to understand and utilize mathematics in a brand – in an artful and enjoyable manner.
In order to do so, research was done prior to the brand creation. Learning more about the basics of coffee and mathematics allowed me to draw links and similarities between both topics. This includes understanding different branches of mathematics, their applications and formulas. On the other hand, learning more about coffee includes the art of crafting coffee, such as the roasting process, brewing techniques, taste profiles and popular recipes. In addition to the research, coffee brands and experiences that showcased a unique perspective towards coffee were studied to ensure its feasibility - namely Gacha Gacha Coffee by Nendo, Ink Blend by Lung-Hao Chiang and Pantone Café by Grimaldi Forum.
Solution:
To create a brand that embodies not only a one-of-a-kind visual system inspired by mathematical concepts but also a brand that convey useful information regarding coffee to its consumers. The end result is a brand that is contemporary, unique and informative in a fun way.
