A dear friend of mine, Charles Harris, asked me to photograph his pregnant daughter. Of course, I was happy and honored to do so, as Charles is not only a friend, but a great photographer who has been an endless source of photographic knowledge and support over the years. I hope he likes it as it's really quite nerve racking to shoot for another photographer.
My approach to this photograph was to try and create a more classical portrait if you will. I took some inspiration from Vermeer's "Girl With Pearl Earrings." One strobe light was used to create a more natural sense of lighting direction. I also used a painted backdrop, again, to give a more painterly sense to the photograph. Nudes are tough, particularly pregnant nudes, as you want to create a sense of beauty and mystery to the imagery without revealing too much, as too much would be, well, too much. I hope i succeeded.
