This project introduced students to making patterns for a course in Art Licensing. Students created one main piece and a coordinate following one of three available themes: Florals, Space, or Dogs & Cats. I chose Space.
Approach
For my series, so eloquently titled Gayliens, I investigated themes not usually seen in patterns, reaching for an adult audience without having the subject matter depicted as overtly disgusting or over-the-top humorous.
Results
The main pattern shows figures having homoerotic encounters with different aliens with sexual motifs added in the background. It killed in our hallways at Watkins College of Art.
