In the many actions against the spread of the coronavirus, the support of several individuals and corporations, workers and donors, national and foreign, was crucial in Porto. To honour individuals and collective persons that have been fighting the coronavirus on the many frontlines, Porto City Hall decided to attribute a special award.
The traditional medal commonly used when distinguishing relevant contributions to the city was replaced by a small drop of metal, an object that symbolizes the "blood, sweat and tears" of all those who have fought to prevent and break contagion and care for the sick. This drop is also a remembrance of Ricardo Jorge, the epidemiologist and University of Porto famous Alumni, who by the end of the nineteenth century fought the bubonic plague in Porto.
Designed to fit the hand, weighed to be solemn, it is a reminder of frailty, humanity and generosity.
