Theatre programs have been a staple of graphic design since the turn of the 18th century. Serving as both advertisement and visual identity, the program cover should represent the play, and entice the audience by “setting the scene.” This assignment focuses on composition, typographic hierarchy, and integration of imagery and typography. Students selected from a list of Shakespearean plays and designed a 14x17-inch full color poster with illustration, photography, or both.
Here the students demonstrate figurative language systems (metaphor, simile, irony, or synecdoche) through type and image combinations.
The resulting design is a vector-based illustration.
