I photographed, Frank Patania Jr, an 88 year old jewelry artist in Tucson, AZ, for an article in Phoenix Home and Garden magazine. The article focuses on The Patania family, who are three generations of jewelry artists ( Frank Patania Sr, Frank Patania Jr and Sam Patania ) . All 3 have pieces on display in the Smithsonian in Washington, DC. Frank Sr passed away in 1964 and Frank Jr's son, Sam continues to make jewelry in Tucson.
When I arrived at Frank Jr's house, it was a pristine 100 year home that had amazing furnishings, well-kept wood floors and wonderful wallpaper though out. I wanted to capture the feel of the house so I shot this available light with just window light as the main source. As I was setting up the camera and finding an angle, Frank Jr. was just gazing out the window and looked lost in thought and luckily, I was able to grab that brief moment.
The client loved the series and I was thrilled to have caught this candid image in the process.
