The goal of the project was to make a compelling editorial magazine spread for a magazine and article of our choice. We were able to use any method of illustration to complete this goal.

My approach was to find an article I found interesting, which happened to be an article about Vampire bats, and create a unique visual for the subject. Vampire bats are typically associated with red and black, so I wanted to take it in the opposite direction. I'm inspired by the beautiful cool color pallets found in bats colorings and used that as a base while adding in additional bright colors. I wanted to make my spread feel painterly and have a tactile texture. Red was sparingly used just to highlight and draw attention to blood, which is the main reason for the article.

The project was a great success and received positive feedback as well as helpful critiques by those who viewed it. The critiques were taken to heart and I worked to improve the piece over time to the the viewer and my pleasure.
