Applying typographic theories and principles, students develop a design system for a publication of their choice. The design system is visualized into a prototype of a final issue of the publication.
Approach
SLAM is a provocative publication that tackles polarizing aspects of Sumo culture. The final layout design utilizes extreme contrast to show the exaggerated nature of Sumo. Some spreads are mostly white space and utiize small images, while other spreads are completely fillled with just one image.
Results
The publication was applauded for how it exaggerated the nature of Sumo in the large publication format as well as how 2D space is utilized.
