Just an Illusion is a board game to enjoy with family and friends. Taking turns rolling the dice and moving around the board, you can steal, trade, and lose cards to other players. It is beneficial to make it to the finish line with the most cards in your hand, but it does not guarantee the winning card matches one you have! Check the secret envelope once all players have finished to see you holds the winning card.
With a product like this, there were many moving parts to consider and perfect. I used optical illusions to tie the game together and give it its name, Just an Illusion. Illusions seen on the cards, board, game pieces, and box create the main visual elements. These illusions are accompanied by bright colors to further engage your eyes. There is an illusion created by sliding the inner and outer box against each other using slit animation. Standing alone, the boxes do not create any image. But when put together, they create a moving image.
This project was successful because the elements were cohesive in design, visuals, and function. The game is not only playable, but visually engaging and fun to try to understand the illusions throughout the game.
