I was tasked in creating distinct and unique packaging for a well known toy/game. I chose Candyland because it was one of my favorite games I would play with my mother and felt that it could use an updated design. I wanted to create a stylized contemporary Candyland special edition that would attract younger and nostalgic audiences.

I wanted to keep Candyland’s original colorful characters and lands. I quickly realized it was a challenge to use every color of the rainbow and created a system of colors that are easily recognizable and are functional with the game’s mechanisms. I made the lands on the board a lower opacity while the rainbow patterned games spaces are a more bold version of the pastel rainbow. This would allow for all of the colors to coexist on the board.

This new edition of Candyland was received well and many audiences enjoyed the original game mechanisms with a new, fresh look. I have been told that one of the best parts of the game redesign is that the game pieces are wrapped individually like small pieces of candy.
