Create a typographic logo for TypeCon 2016. TypeCon 2016 is a festival where all the type fans meet and share the latest typefaces and programs. It’s going to be held in Seattle, Washington and the dates are August 9–13. I only allowed to use Helvetica to design the whole identity. I am expected to create a logo, ticket, ID lanyards, shirts and poster to promote the event.
My goal is to using VHS effect to recreate typography and visual effect for TypeCon 2016. Distorted type are always being avoided by people because it doesn’t look good.
However, I choose to use it for my logo and whole identity for my rebranding. When people look close, they cannot really tell what the type is. However when people step back or see it from a distance, the shape will reveal as soon as possible. That allows me to play with digital pattern that VHS effect brought to me in this case. In order to create more movement in my identity, I overlapped the distorted type and put them together with the normal type. Glitchy type is crazy when it is all over the place, so I use the regular Helvetica typeface for the information part.
