As one of the first, this book provides a scientific view on the history of collective living, a topic getting more and more into public focus. G+A was asked to design this book.
This book is structured along different economic, political and social factors. Prefaces, essays, scientific text, lexical object descriptions, footnotes, tables, charts... we focused on readability. Images, such as historical drawings and pictures, come from different sources of heterogenic quality and are descriptive to the texts. On the other hand, there was a focus on architectural plans. These are all harmonized, custom designed, color coded and scaled to each other and make the presented objects comparable.
This book is designed inside out. Good typography is essential and each type of text is carefully designed. It is very dense and content heavy, scientific publication and that is how it should be. We wanted to create a manual, a lexicon that let you dive deep into. It offers three bookmarks, because it has multiple levels. Last but not least, the colored circle symbolizing the communal aspect of the topic and making the cover stand out of the crowd. This publication is a rich source.
