This project was a competition for a sustainable company, selling Xylit sugar that is much healthier and much more environmentally friendly in its production than cane sugar. The sugar is harvested from the bark of birch trees in Finland. The supplier asked to create a packaging that was appealing and did not have necessarily a eco friendly look, rather than to approach new target groups with a positive appeal.
Mrs Bastings wanted to bring in the roots of the production into her design, this is why she used the name Happy Little Trees and designed a corporate design for the product that reminds customers of a finish design look and feel. The chosen colors show the range in the different birch sugars variants. They were also chosen to appeal to the target group of young families, young adults and people with a high design aesthetic.
The product as it is with the packaging is now available on the German and Austrian market since November 2015.
