This assignment was to create a public safety advertisement, focusing on any topic that has a radical impact on society. I chose to do my ad on sexual assault. The statistics for rape are exponentially high, especially on college campuses across America. I recognize that many efforts to stop sexual assault are not successful. To address this issue and to promote what many organizations believe is the best way to stop it, I decided to incorporate a rape whistle into my ad.

I incorporated the whistle into my ad because it is a representation of the lack of success in stopping assault. Rape whistles are not a realistic solution, and are even laughed at on many campuses because of their lack of reliability to the issue at hand. I wanted to bring light the fact that we need a new way to stop assault from happening. I used a naked model to bring a shock factor to the ad, showing the reader that this is a matter that we need to take seriously.

I wanted to create an ad that people will remember. With a serious topic like this, the dark and shocking visuals accomplish that goal. This ad addresses the current issue (lack of reliable solution) and introduces an effective one: education. I, along with many organizations, believe that educating young men and women on the hard lines of consensual intimacy will ultimately bring about REAL change.
