The New York Times commission to design the cover of the LEARNING section highlighting an article entitled “Educating Gen Z”.

I wanted to communicate the idea of education simply and quickly. So I built a giant ‘Z’ by using the tip of two graphite pencils which make the counter-forms of the letter. The dark yellow is used to reference the classic number two pencil which is synonymous with classroom education. The result is a bold and graphic cover highlighting the gap families must fill between the price of college and the aid they receive.
