The development of a compelling visual design system seeks to unify a system's differing components yet instill excitement through its innovative representation of meaning. This project focuses on the manipulation and arrangement (composition) of typography and image as it conveys messages through a poster series.

Hands painted with negative words represent Lamar wearing their critiques on his sleeve and holding himself high inspite of their messages. The hand is constricted with tight bands and held down with colorful tethers, representing those people who tried to hold down music icons for sharing messages they didn’t believe in. Waving, large scale text furthers the message of Lamar spreading his message regardless of critique with its unabashed brightness and major occupation of page space.

Music icons are fearless, bold, and unapologetically individual. They push through the
traditional ideals held by people of their time to spread the message they feel called to share. Though others may try to constrict and pull down an artist for sharing messages they don’t deem acceptable, music icons are always able to shine through their defiers. Their fearless expression of individuality and ideals have been catalysts for change throughout history and is the very thing that makes them iconic.
