The assignment was to redesign an existing magazine and demonstrate clear typographic and editorial design skills by creating a new masthead, grid, type pairings, imagery (photography and illustration), folio, departments, a feature story, etc.
Approach
Blueprint is a London-based publication that talks about art, design, and architecture in context. The goal was to refresh their magazine, reframing it in a more edgy and contemporary light. For the covers, I kept the issue number large and iconic, but redesigned the masthead and moved it to the spine; when you see the cobalt spine, the masthead creates a nice interaction between positive and negative space that becomes both sculptural and iconic.
Results
This editorial solution reflects the goals of the magazine while maintaining a beautiful visual style that both sets them apart from their competitors and is recognizable by their consumer base.
