I was given an assignment to create a brand identity for a theoretical design company inspired by a holiday; I was assigned “Thanksgiving.”
My interpretation of Thanksgiving focused on the tradition of breaking a wishbone. A wishbone, also known as a “merrythought,” symbolizes the promise of luck and good fortune.
To create this logo, I observed the relationship between the wishbone shape and the form of the letter “W,” juxtaposing it with several typefaces. I noticed the letter “W” had two possibilities for the wishbone logo, such as having two wishbones side by side, or incorporating it in the center. I felt the logo was most successful with “Jenson” font, as its thin and thick line quality and serifs were reminiscent of a wishbone’s unique asymmetrical shape.
