The assignment was to create a typeface from scratch and then digitalize it on Glyph to turn it into a type-able typeface.
Approach
I have always been fascinated by retro-futurism/the space age and its aesthetic. Astro is a typeface inspired retro sci-fi movie posters from that era.
Results
As the result, a quirky and fun display typeface was created. Astro can be recognized by its elongated form with short x-height and rounded edges. In contrast, the counters are kept rectangular. The ascender and descender are also reduced in height to retain the horizontal form and stylized look.
