This was a self-led portfolio project designing a poster to advertise an Oregon fiber festival. It grew out of an earlier class project branding a real-life festival (Black Sheep Gathering), for which I created the illustration. For the portfolio project I used a different logo concept, turned it into a fictional festival, redesigned the typography, and made more branded materials to accompany it.
I wanted to create a modern, fun feel for a type of festival which is often branded as (or thought of as) traditional and possibly somewhat boring. I've been to many of these kinds of events and they are energetic, filled with people of all ages, and just have overall happy atmospheres, so I wanted to portray that feeling in the branding.
What I created was a long poster, meant to hang from a street light, with an eye-catching illustration, and smaller details that the viewer can enjoy with a closer look. The dot patterns used in the illustration are referenced in the halftone dots at the bottom, which may look like an abstract texture at first glance, but is actually more sheep. The bold but simple typography tells you what you need to know and the logo adds an additional pop of whimsy.
