There is extreme over-development and gentrification currently taking place in Nashville, TN. Because of this, historic places are being torn down to make way for high rises. Nearly 50 buildings have been torn down on historic Music Row in the past five years. This new development, while great for the economy, is stripping Nashville of its soul and making it look like every other city in the U.S.
We chose to appropriate the image of an historical marker, which is common in the Middle Tennessee area. These markers tell the story of something that once stood on the location or an event that occurred. This historic marker points out the city of Nashville that used to exist, but it has been destroyed and renamed "Nowville" by hipsters.
This poster has received positive and also remorseful reception by those who are living through the destruction of the city once known as Nashville.
