Wired approached us with a seemingly simple task: take a boring, everyday object and make it look extraordinary. Anything from sunblock to Tide pens to this venture—Scotch tape.

We began our process on paper, sketching out various ideas that could make Scotch tape visually interesting and unexpected. Keeping in mind the placement of type, we figured out what composition would work best for the designers to work with. Using forced perspective and graphic light, we worked to highlight the translucent nature of the tape. A wide-angle lens and capture techniques gives the sense of immense depth of field.

All reactions to this image have been nothing but positive, with some of the best being “I never thought such a cheap object could be so beautiful” and “I’ve never looked at Scotch tape that way!”
