The project aimed to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, whereby students, from various departments at the Academy of Fine Arts and ,Design, studying on an elective Graphic Design course, make their contribution to the anniversary, which was remembered throughout 2016.

The creative process started with a well-known portrait of Shakespeare divided into 81 equal parts. Parts were re-designed by each of the participating students in A4 format. The students applied different techniques according to the their creative ideas. Each design was also marked with a number in left upper corner.

The outcome of this project is a portrait of Shakespeare composed from 81 independently designed parts forming an entirely new portrait that reflects contemporary thought and understanding about the author and his work. The finalised portrait is 189 cm x 267 cm in size, and is displayed as a wall art composition. In addition, a black box book was designed, where each of the 81 art solutions is supported by selected quotations from Shakespeare. The project exhibited at the Ljubljana City Theatre in Slovenia throughout the second half of 2016.
