The assignment was to work with FedEx's recruitment department to come up with a more effective way to fill hundreds of open package handler positions across the United States.
The creative approach was to re-position part-time package handler jobs at FedEx warehouses as "gyms", where people can get paid $15-$20hr. + full-time benefits to exercise by loading and unloading thousands of boxes during 3-4 hour flexible work shifts. The work ran in major fitness magazines and as posters hung outside popular gym chain locations like Anytime Fitness, 24-Hour Fitness, LA Fitness and Planet Fitness. (Basically all of the Fitnesses.)
Number of applications nationwide increased 34% since the beginning of the campaign. Because the hiring process can take up to two months to complete between heightened government security background checks and training, net hiring results are still pending.
