MIMMA is an original story about the meeting of two different minds and hearts: two women from very different cultures and aspirations. Their friendship transcends the conflict between their nations and endures the ravages of history. The assignment was to create a promotional poster and accompanying communications establishing MIMMA as a premium musical theatre production from a local theatre company.
Mimma’s story is set in the 1940s and is based on true events and people. The musical is centered around Mimma, a strong woman, a survivor. She is driven but she is also fragile, searching for her family and for their freedom. The approach to the design pivots around these characteristics of Mimma, displaying her strength and endurance, and her journey amongst a war-torn environment. By using a collage of diffused photography, illustration and a colour palette sympathetic to the period and the environmental state, we are able to set the scene for MIMMA’s journey ahead.
The final design hero’s a silhoutte of an optimistic young woman containing a collage of Mimma, suitcase in hand, heading towards her destiny. The background boldly displays the MIMMA title, again echoing Mimma’s strength and optimism, appealing to women and men of all ages and across multi-generations. The show is due to open shortly and has already received great interest from the public.
