Rumpl is the perfect blanket for anywhere—your bed, your mountainside campsite, your surf bag—you get the idea. When the company moved from San Francisco to Portland and got ready for its true launch, we helped introduce the brand to the city with a series of outdoor billboards. The campaign helped legitimize Rumpl as a serious outdoor goods company to 20somethings and—just as importantly—to its budding brand partners.
The trick was looking and feeling like a major player, while only spending little-league dollars.
We conceived and implemented the outdoor campaign on a shoestring $6,000 budget. On billboards, outdoorsy photography of folks swathed in the product are captioned with fun, pop culture references, like “Warm AF When it’s Cold AF, ” “Person Koozie” and “No Netflix and No Chills” on one showing a blanket covering a couple’s legs as they warm their feet before a fire. Each billboard tags with “Rumpl. Blankets For Anywhere.”
Our OOH campaign raised Rumpl’s unit sales and revenues. Website visits originating from Portland were significantly up from the same period of the previous year. Sales continue to increase, up 20% from last year. The work also produced an unexpected benefit of making Rumpl look like a major player to its distributors and forthcoming brand partners. This has our client doing cartwheels and they’ve deemed it more important than any sales increase.
