During my Portfolio Enhancement course at Texas Christian University, I was tasked with choosing a project that would best showcase my creative skillsets—I chose to create a film trailer. In so doing, I was able to combine my talents as a Script Writer, Executive Producer, Director, Graphic Designer and Editor of “The Vault of Dreamers.”
Having a background in film, theater and graphic design, I used my creative and organizational skills to write a script, create a story board, curate the cast, crew and locations and ultimately film and finish a film trailer over the course of three weeks. Using “The Vault of Dreamers” book by Caragh M. O’Brien as the framework and Netflix’s branding for perceived reputability, I was able to create a trailer that viewers would want to add to their “Watchlist.”
The trailer has been a tremendous success. My professor was extremely pleased—he even shared the trailer link on his personal social media. Viewers (unaware that the trailer was meant for a class assignment) were congratulating myself, my cast and crew on our show being picked up by Netflix. They actually thought the movie/series was real! I am personally thrilled with the outcome and hopeful that someday this trailer could become more than an assignment and be made into a complete/full-length series.
