The Alabama Bicentennial was a once in a lifetime opportunity to honor the story of our state. When the Alabama Bicentennial Commission and Alabama Humanities Foundation first came to us, they envisioned a statewide celebration with an educational traveling exhibit as the centerpiece. It was our job to craft a vision for the initiative.
Tatum Design saw the potential to create a brand that could reach thousands of Alabamians through multiple avenues, including an interactive traveling exhibit. We believed that the Alabama Bicentennial deserved to make history, and we set out on a creative journey to make this vision a reality. Our team led the creative efforts that would set the tone for the three-year bicentennial celebration. We are the sole brand creators, designers and authors of the Making Alabama Traveling Exhibit — the primary touchpoint of the Making Alabama Brand. Every execution, from the name, logo, artwork, illustrations, posters, ads, outdoor boards, merchandise and branded vehicles to the exhibit murals, interactive timelines and festival experiences, was designed and developed by our team. We not only created the traveling exhibit in its entirety, but we also implemented a full-fledged brand campaign to support it. As an Alabama based firm, we leveraged all of our personal experiences, histories and connections to create a genuine brand that would resonate with the people of our state.
Through the Making Alabama Brand, we helped the foundation secure 70 locations and recruit 700 volunteers to host the Making Alabama Traveling Exhibit. From the beginning, our vision was to personally connect people with Alabama history like never before, and we accomplished this objective through a dynamic brand that engaged and excited audiences of all ages and demographics. To date, the historic Making Alabama Brand has reached more than 250,000 people across our state. It will be remembered for generations.
