To develop a new brand identity for Hicks Design Studio – an award winning Canadian architectural firm. Once the brand identity was in place, we rolled out key corporate communication tools including a fully responsive website and stationery suite (business card, letterhead, envelope and presentation folder).
Known for their range of customization, we needed to create a brand identity that acted as a signature for their diverse portfolio — one that connected back to their name and business vertical but not necessarily suggestive of a defined style. The approved solution is a customized “H”, crafted out of one continuous line that flows into the shape of a hexagon. It is simple and direct, producing a three-dimensional illusion of a spacial plan — designed to be an ambigram (a shape that reads the same when turned upside down). We then used the icon to create a customized pattern which personalized the stationery elements along with finishing touches such as soft touch laminate, embossing the icon on both sides of the business card with a clear foil and duplexing the two sides together.
While a sophisticated and clean design was the end result to match the website development for brand continuity, the finishing of the stationery in terms of production complexity proved challenging. After multiple tests to find what would work best we proceeded with the full production of the stationery suite. The attention to detail in quality finishing matches the clients own reputation for the same and they are very happy to confidently hand out their cards and proposal packages.
