Through researching images associated with offshore drilling, the squid and the drill emerged as two forms that easily and beautifully meshed together. The tricky part was creating a regal, symmetrical emblem from the two forms, specifically the very organic shapes of the squid. Through revisions and sketches and alterations and user testing, the final form was realized in a flowing, yet bold mark. The typeface "futura bold" carries the weight of the mark, while mimicking the line quality within the design.
