The goal for this particular piece was to reimagine a classic book and make it eye-catching for a new, younger audience. Jules Verne was a pioneer for science fiction, and the novel "From The Earth To The Moon" gave audiences in the Victorian era their first taste of space travel. To encompass this, I created a scene of the rocket ship making its way to the moon. I chose to work in a stained-glass style to homage to the period in which Jules Verne originally wrote this book, but work entirely digital to make it still eye-catching to modern-day shoppers.

I worked entirely in Adobe Illustrator to create this cover. I started with creating the gold line art and warping the lines into believable stained glass shapes. After making the basic shapes, I filled them all in with various colors and gradients. I then added the texture by making gradients that covered the entire canvas and using filters like plastic wrap and sponge. To make small rays of light within the "glass," I used a gradient mesh, added pastel colors inspired by the galaxies, and then set them to soft light and lowered the opacity.

The end result is a totally unique rendition of a book that was initially published back in 1865. By redesigning covers for old books, especially Jules Verne, I hope to inspire them to pick up a novel they usually wouldn't reach for.
