The project is about ”Nihilism“ and ”Alternative Comedy“. Nihilism is the philosophical viewpoint that suggests the denial of the meaning of life. Which argues that life is without meaning, purpose, or value. Logic can lead us to nowhere. And speaking of comedy, What is it? Comedy or humor is where two or more features of the world fail to reach consistency. This view can be traced back to Aristotle – “We tend to find things funny when they involve inconsistency”. Scientifically, in order to effectively manage resources, our brains stay few steps ahead of what we are hearing. Estimating what will be the possible outcomes. But after discovered we are being told a joke and none of those expectations are correct. All those neural network energy needs to release. Which make us Laugh. Hence, we can comedy another form and also a physical execution of the idea of nihilism.
The name of the project came from a surreal comedy show called ”The Eric Andre Show”. He used this term in the show many times in his show but no one knew what does that actually mean. I picked this line as my title because of the same reason. I think it matched the idea of of nihilism well. No one knows what is that but get ready for some new, unfamiliar, or even uncomfortable content, Ranch it up!Through out the project, I introduced the idea of nihilism and how they present themselves in different aspects. Such as Dadaism, Surrealism, and Literature. Then slowly connect them with modern Alternative Comedy.Since the nihilism also associated with the ideas like rebel, and anti-establishment. I made some of my image frames into nonconventional shape and also cut the edge of the book into round to reflect the idea. Different sections were represented by different sauces. All the intention is to trigger the viewer to get the sense of nonsense and bizarreness.
