This poster was created for a Typography 3 project. The objective of this assignment was to create a poster for the Student ADDYS Competition that referenced an art movement of your choice. The ADDYS is a design competition that presents an opportunity for students to get their work in the spotlight and in front of the eyes of professionals. The design and illustration of this poster references the work of artists from the Vienna Secession, who were very much concerned with creating art outside of the confines of the prevailing conservatism and historicism. These artists had a devotion to creating something that had never been seen before.

The flat illustration style and use of gold foil paper in this poster was inspired by the characteristics found in many secessionists work. Flat florals combined with geometric shapes can be commonly found in the work of Koloman Moser, who played a large role in the movement, and the use of gold is present in many of Gustav Klimt’s work, who was the first president of the Secession. The addition of eyeballs to the flowers is a reference to the event and brings to light the exposure opportunities presented through this competition.

The use of gold paper creates a shimmer effect that is sure to catch the eye of a passerbyer. This, combined with the design and illustration, presents a creative representation of the competition as well as a level of sophistication and prestige.
