"Midlife" is a sinister journey inside the head of a woman approaching middle age. Her world becomes a volatile jumble of real, unreal and surreal as she struggles with her marriage, her career, her regrets and, most significantly, the inevitability of change. The play vacillates between mundane and menacing, and culminates in a violent transformation.
The task was to create an arresting, yet open image that draws the viewer into the protagonist's mind and world.
I chose to utilize collage to explore the protagonist's separation from herself throughout the play. Furthermore, I used photography, paint, ink and photocopier to mirror the multi-disciplinary aesthetic of the production's scenic design.
The client was extremely satisfied with the result. Ultimately, the poster was successful in exploring and representing the world of the play and in drawing the attention of audiences as well.
