Maine Beach are a brand of premium Australian bodycare where each of their ranges contain key hero ingredients of provenance.
This range ‘Ligurian Honey’ contains the nectar of the renowned Ligurian bee - from the purest strain and source in the world - on Kangaroo Island, Australia. Secluded since 1884 from mainland Australia in the world’s oldest bee sanctuary, these Ligurian hives on Kangaroo Island produce an inimitable honey that has been demonstrated as being hypoallergenic, moisturising and an amazing antioxidant.
Iconic shapes and evocative graphics express a unique story. Honing in on 'provenance' as a primary and valuable asset in the narrative.
The bees that produce this renowned honey were originally from Liguria in Italy and the fragrance imbued in the products is that of the luscious Italian Blood Orange. So we took this Italianate theme, combined it with the iconic honey hexagon shape in the boxing shapes to create an elegant and evocative range that reflected the origin, purity and heritage of these products. These are items that consumers purchase to be part of their interior and personal spaces.
The actual packs are a combination of various shape, substrates and sizes - metal bottles, tubes and tins - from 15ml lip lustre in mini tube applicators to 500ml pump bottles.
The hexagonal boxing features tactile black gloss highlights and gold foil on embossed uncoated textured paper stock. Rich with calligraphic detail, the crisp white hexagonal boxing feature tactile black gloss UV highlights and gold foil on white embossed textured paper stock reflecting the Italianate and honey theme. Quality printing on rigid fully lined lidded boxes. Custom gloss white metal bottles and embossed silver tins with accents of bright chrome on pumps and lids combine to create a premium and crafted effect.
Honey is a beautiful, syrup with a glow of liquid amber in its honeycomb, contrasting beautifully with the crisp white of the packaging which was expressed in the product photography.
Maine Beach consider packaging to be paramount to their principle of not just providing protection but creating packs that are beautiful and imbued with visual and sensory detail. The box packaging is made from durable rigid art-card making them ideal for overseas travellers – or to treasure. The packs, tins and glassware are all recyclable but are envisaged as being retained as keepsakes, re-utilised or re-imagined. Primarily aimed at the gifting market, the packaging links the story of the collection, its provenance, the contents and the benefits of the products while adding to the customer’s experience, knowledge and enjoyment.
Since release, with its unique combination of hero organic ingredients and synergised packaging approach, their Ligurian Honey range has proved to be an iconic and enduring best seller.
A range really becomes successful when the product harmonises and aligns on the multiple fronts - content (core ingredients / organic / sustainability / transparency regarding origin), efficacy (does it work for me), visual appeal (does it look good in my space) and aspirational desires (does it reflect well upon me).
What has occurred with this range is that the packaging has succeeded in transcending boundaries and supposed age barriers - in that, it has been successful across multiple age brackets - from millennials through to the baby boomers.
Postscript: Recently the Australian drought and particularly the early 2020 savage bushfires have ravaged this pristine island with a great loss of hives and the Kangaroo Island bee sanctuary is under threat of survival. Maine Beach has stock of the honey but is working with the sanctuary to regenerate its unique ecosystem for the ongoing protection of this unique and precious resource.
