Assignment
Located on the beautiful and remote island of Orkney, Scapa is the second most northerly single malt distillery in all of Scotland. Despite the setting of this rugged and wind-blasted island, the master craftsmen of Scapa produce a whisky that is creamy, smooth and sweet, in comparison with other more peated Scottish island malts.
Approach
Our challenge was to redesign Scapa for the launch of a new non-age statement flagship malt. It was key that we capture the spirit of the island and it’s geography in a way that is authentic to those that live there. While Orkney is exposed and can be punished by the elements, the Scapa distillery itself, sits on the shores of Scapa Flow an unspoilt area of natural beauty that has acted as a natural harbour protecting sailors and their ships for centuries. The packaging and naming for “Skiren” meaning ‘glittering bright skies’ in Old Norse, reflects the view from the distillery window of ever-changing seas and skies that shift from moody and dark to calm and bright in an instant.
Results
Label details capture the artisanal nature of the liquid crafted by a small distillery team of five using traditional whisky production methods. Our Scapa logo holds a traditional Orkney Yole boat on the horizon reinforcing our credentials as a true Orcadian brand.
