Family owned and operated, Tayport Distillery is a micro distillery that produces Scotland’s first true, grain-to-glass Eau de Vie. Surrounded by the amazing soft fruits and grains of Fife and Angus, they set out to create a truly authentic spirit that broke all rules.
We worked with Tayport Distillery to develop a brand and a that wears its history, it’s family bonds and it's provenance on the very surface of the glass. At the heart of the brand - is its story. As incredulous, inspiring and crazy as a tale could be - it’s the life story of the Distillery’s founder Kecia McDougall. Charting transatlantic leaps if faith, the journey of raising a family, to the unpredictable and inspiring way in which she has coped with all the bumps in the road on the way to setting up the distillery and it’s flagship brand Never 25 (itself - a copyright issue turned good).
We knew the visual tone for the brand and its products had to be as imaginative and unique as their creator. We started out with only one direction, a single colour for guidance, Indigo Blue, owing to a life changing gift she had received from a stranger as a young woman (told you the story was crazy). From there we went about drawing, doodling, painting, splashing and mark making all the of unique elements of her story, of her life and her brand.
These handmade marks became the heart and soul of the Never.25 brand - from the bluebird to reflect her journey from America to Scotland over 25 years ago, to the pause symbol to celebrate her daughter's musical career and the myriad of flags, footprints, conkers, and golf balls - these marks collectively define the brand and make it immediately accessible. You understand there is a real pride, a passion and personal connection within the brand.
These marks went through a labour of love to make them ready for a modern print process, whilst ensuring the authenticity and texture of remained true. The results - a label system with individually detailed tactile patterns surrounding a bold and confident central brand tile.
