Our project was to visualize, create, and design a magazine cover from scratch. The main requirements of this project was to include various magazine and editorial components. Included in this was a unique banner representing the name of the magazine, various article lines, and a centralized cover image.

The theme of my magazine was streetwear and skateboarding. I thought an excellent central image and focal point for my cover would be of Yuto Horigome, an Olympic skater from Japan and notably the first gold medalist in history for the sport. The image for the cover was created from an action shot of Yuto completing a trick in mid air in one of his events. I created around 5 to 6 layers of bitmaps, halftones, opacity masks, as well as 4 colors to create my desired effect. The background was generated from a 360 degree camera photograph of Shibuya, a ward in Tokyo, Japan where Yuto Horigome is originally from.

The result is a powerful, vibrant magazine cover that entices the viewer to read more of my magazine, especially if they are interested in skate culture.
