My challenge was to render and embrace the central element of the composer's genius, and to express his defiance of and mastery over physical limitation to create resonant, visceral work. The ear is how we appreciate the artist's art, and at once a symbol of the artist's triumph over loss. Fused with the bass clef in the language of music, a tessitura full of color.
