I approached the assignment by designing a triptych of posters and 3 objects, matching each part of the triptych. Each object (and thus part of the triptych) draws inspiration from an area of Beuys' vast body of work.
The base of all applications is a quote by Beuys: »Jeder Mensch ist ein Künstler« (every man is an artist) reimagined as a logo in the shape of a cross, where the sentence in split in the middle of a letter, referencing duality, which can often be explicitly or implicitly found in Beuys' work.
The bottle (and left side of the tryptic) is inspired by Beuys' connection to nature and his early work in which he, impacted by the aftermath of World War II, often imagined a post-apocalyptic word.
The hourglass (and centre of the tryptic) draws inspiration from Beuys' persona of a self-proclaimed shaman: it contains metal shreds which can be manipulated with a magnet, and with that materialises an idea of time manipulation.
The box (and right side of the tryptic) references artistic and activist projects in which Beuys reappropriated objects from consumer culture, and his tendency to define an artwork by a huge handwritten signature.
