We were commissioned by Here Be Monsters to create imagery for BC Used Oil Management Association's upcoming awareness campaign.
Used motor oil is a low-interest category. But when people do take an interest, they usually have lots of questions. To get the conversation started and, ultimately, to drive traffic to its website, the BC Used Oil Management Association shared some of the quirkier questions they’ve been asked over the years. Questions like “Why can’t I just burn my used motor oil?”, “Can used motor oil be used as an essential oil?” or, “Is used motor oil good on leather?” These questions were posed by an equally quirky, yet socially-representative cast of characters to catch the attention of BC Used Oil’s audience and let them know there's more to learn.
The advertisements were displayed as print ads as bus shelters and billboards, as well as digitally on the client's website and social media channels. This campaign was awarded in the International Photography Awards, as well as featured in Luerzers Archive's 200 Best Photographers Worldwide for 2021/ 2022.
