GHD’s assignment was to memorialize the development of one of New York City’s most important new architectural initiatives in decades, 731 Lexington. The full city block project replaced the original Alexander’s flagship store adjacent to Bloomingdales. It is the headquarters of Bloomberg, home to Le Cirque, and includes several floors of luxury condominiums known as Beacon Court, as well as 3 levels of retail space.
GHD's efforts were research intensive and included extensive work with Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, STUDIOS Architecture, Vornado Realty Trust, Bloomberg L.P., and the City of New York. Our objective was to create a process monograph rather than a finished portfolio book.
The completed 731 Lexington is dramatically presented in an oversized monograph that details the process of the building’s creation from start to finish. The book also captures the complicated urban planning efforts as well as the myriad of stakeholders needed to ensure the realization of the project.
